November/2009 UPDATES

27/November/2009 Posted by HellStormer1

Hello everyone, hellstormer1 here.  So, does anyone out there remember this old quote???

"Greetings, Starfighter.  You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Kodan armada."

This year, they released the 25th anniversary edition DVD of The Last Starfighter, a 1984 sci-fi film that told the story of a young man who got to live every gamer and sci-fi lovers dream, taking an advanced space ship to the stars to fight bad guys and save the day.  While it was a simple story, it had many subtle details that could be built upon for future development, such as an enemy only showing a small portion of itself, the main bad guy getting away, and the need to rebuild a force of heroes to defend the Star League after near-annihilation.

Using modern CG, the film's details were highlighted, keeping the original appearance, but making it stand out more while watching the film.  The Last Starfighter was one of the first films to use computer generated imaging, and it is even debated whether or not it came before Tron in some circles but was released later.

In honor of this years re-release of the film, a personal fave of mine as well, I have new stats for the site and for the pleausre of patrons to the site.  Today I post Kodan Command Ship, Kodan Space Fighter, Xurian Ship, Star League Gunstar Prototype, Star League Gunstar and The Starcar to the site, and hopefully fans will enjoy using these in their future games!

Also, fans out there may want to know that the internet is a buzz with many a rumor of a Last Starfighter sequel film, either being a remake or a tale of the son of the protagonist from the first film.  The rumors have been sparkled with enough truth to keep hope alive, as all posts online point to George Paige and Associates, a film company known for doing many low-budget works in the past.  They have officially posted on their sites on their project lists a Last Starfighter movie.  While their history is known to not be big budget, rumors also have it that several big companies are getting involved, which could also be explained by Loromar's selling of their company and rights to several others and ceasing to exist, apparently leaving different people holding the bag in the end.  While i would rather pass on speculating on Loromar and their history, if such were true, then it would explain why different groups would be brought together for making a new film on The Last Starfighter.

Either way, I am hoping for a new film, and would enjoy seeing a sequel that continuesthe original story.  The ending left off with a defeated Kodan armada but an entire empire that could follow up the invasion, a breached Frontier barrier field that would leave Rylos and the Star League vulnerable to attack, the need to rebuild the League's main fighting force of Starfighters and their gunstars, and also the fact the Xur, the reason behind the events of the first film, escaped like any good megalomaniacal villain to cause havoc again later on.

Oh yeah, better make that movie!

Last Monday, the 23rd of November, was the 46th birthday of Doctor Who, and I meant to do an update then, but was waaaaaay to busy at work. So today I've added Sontaran War-Wheel, Sontaran flagship, Sontaran Scout Ship to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section, and Sontaran to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section of the site, as a bit of a birthday themed update (I'd actually meant to do a couple of other species ships, but got stuck in a Sontaran theme).

I'm very proud to present today a new editorial which is a little different to anything I've done in the past.
I've mentioned Jonny Nexus on the site before, and mentioned his book Game Night, which I did a review of last year. Well, Jonny is now releasing his book chapter by chapter free on EN World, and to celebrate this he's arranged a Blog Tour, where he will appear on a different website/blog every day for a week.
Well, I volunteered RPGGamer as a stop on that tour, and very kindly he's actually made us his first stop (which makes us feel kind of important).
So today I've uploaded a little Q+A I did with Jonny, where I asked him a few questions about his gaming life, his book, and a couple of other random thoughts that cruised through my brain at that particular moment. Have a read, have a read of Game Night, and if you like it and want to read ahead of the EN World chapters, remember the book is still available through Amazon (other online book retailers are available).

And later this same night, I have the pleasure of adding a variant set for Global Defense Command Eagle Transport (variant rules), as well as The Liberator from Blake's 7.

The Eagle was posted earlier by freddy, but when i mentioned that he beat me to it, he asked for me to post the variant rules anyways.  As for the Liberator, it was part of a package of rerquests from Fehya (did i spell that right?) along with the Eagle and some other stuff, including some submarines of various kinds whcih the place could use some more of.  I'll have to get to those and fully deck them out when i can.

Hope your game goes well, Fehya!

Hello everyone!  My apologies again for being late on posting things.  While i have been jotting down notes whenever I can, it is getting rediculously difficult to get time on a PC.  But nevertheless, i have some goodies for you!

Today I have the pleasure of posting material from Space Pirate Captain Harlock, a very popular animated series from Japan, which is related to Space Battleship Yamato, The Queen Emeraldas, Galaxy Express 999, and many other animated series and manga comics spun off or recreated from the same source material.  While continuity in these stories may get confusing (UGH!  Headache!), they are nonetheless intersting and very cool, and i highly recommend them to any anime fan.

Here today is the Arcadia (Blue) , Arcadia (Green) , Spacewolf Fighter Mk. I , Spacewolf Fighter Mk. II , and the Spacewolf Fighter Mk. III .

With the Spacewolf fighters, I simply took the different designs on the same fighter from different showings throughout the continuity and used them as different redesigns as later models of the fighter, kind of like the Z-95 headhunters.  I hope everyone enjoys these, and more coming real soon!

I'm sure that I've been asked for this in the past, and I'm pretty sure it's been asked by Feyha, but anyway, here's the Global Defense Command Eagle Transporter and (well he never asked me for this but I did it anyway) the Global Defense Command Mark IX Hawk Combat Fighter which I've added to the Star Wars D/6 Starships section of the site.

I haven't added much lately except seasonal poetry, which probably isn't what you come here for. But anyway, today I've sat for a while and done a couple more of my Doctor Who conversions (kinda timely since the next Doctor Who special is coming up this weekend). Anyway, today I've added Cybermen NPC stats and Timelord Player Character Species to the Star Wars D/6 Characters section of the site.
Next chance I get, I'm going to try to do some of the technology of the series.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.
                — Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

Okay, requests were made, so I've done Clover (Cloverfield) and added it to the Star Wars D/6 Characters section of the site as well.

Sat and watched Cloverfield last night, and today got the urge to make the parasites in D/6 (Clover himself is a bit big and tough to do), anyway here's Cloverfield Parasite added to the Star Wars D/6 Characters section of the Site.

Remember, remember the fifth of November
        The gunpowder treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
        Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, twas his intent
To blow up King and Parli’ment.
Three score barrels were laid below
        To prove old England’s overthrow.

By God’s mercy he was catched
With a dark lantern and lighted match.
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King.

        Okay, no updates recently because . . . . I've had Swine Flu . . . . as excuses go, it's a doozy.
Basically I'm recovering now (I'm well enough to have returned to work), but still feel pretty bad (Swine Flu is less fun than you can possibly imagine), but getting better every day, so things should return to normal pretty soon.
Nothing else I have to say at the moment really. Back soon.
