September/2009 UPDATES

25/September/2009 Posted by Freddy

Okay, I've wanted to do this for a while, today I present The Lexx, which I've added to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section. It's got some notes at the bottom of the description which give my thoughts on it in Star Wars.

Hello again everyone.  Today while I am on my lunch break, I have the time to add something people have wanted to see.  In the Starships D6 section of the site now is the Andromeda Ascendant.  I shall add more from this setting as I can from time to time, and it fully deserves some attention.  Until next time, tell us what you think of the stuff for the ship.

25 Years ago the game Elite was released (Wikipedia lists it as on the 20th, but David Braben is saying it was the 23rd, so I'm either 3 days late, or exactly on time).
Elite was a truly fantastic game, with a manual and novella which drew you into a rounded galaxy which made sense to my teenage brain. The freedom of the game was truly amazing, and the stories in the manual made the game seem even larger than it was (Space Dredgers and Generation Ships, how many times in the school playground were conversations held by people claiming to have seen them, even though now we know they weren't present in the game at all).
I loved the game then, and still love it now (I'm "Dangerous" in my copy of Oolite, but haven't received the first mission yet). I even started to write a Javascript, browser based, point and click version of the game earlier this year, and if I'd know that the anniversary was coming up, I'd probably have finished it (I only implemented the control systems, range of ships and the first 255 planets in the first galaxy. You could fly around, dock with space stations, but there wasn't anyone else around, and you couldn't trade or modify your ship, so I was still a fair way from finishing it.).
We've done Elite stats before, so had to think about what we were going to do for this anniversary, so I've added today Whatt and Pritney Python Freighter, Zorgon Petterson Group Asp Mark II, Thargoid Invasion Ship to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section of the Site. These vessels I chose, firstly because the Thargoids are the big bad's of the Elite universe, so doing their ship seemed sensible, the Asp was supposed to be the Human combat ship so also seemed a sensible choice, and finally the Python I always thought of as one of the most gorgeous vessels in the game, the way it moved was both graceful and gave an impression of size.
Anyway, that's my addition to the site for this week, I think I might start looking at actually completing my Elite clone, or then again, maybe not. . .

No updates today just a slight modification to the site, one that's been heavily requested by visitors for the past 6 months. The menu system now shows an icon to indicate which pages have an image on them, since many visitors prefer stats with an image. Hope this is of some use to people.

. . . I just noticed that this system has a slight flaw, it shows all of the pages from the old version of the site as having pictures (which actually the vast majority of them do), this is because the older pages are html and the imagelink is embedded into the page rather than the database. Whoops.

Well, closing off the poll after waaaaaaaay too long. Coolest ship has been decided to be Serenity, which wouldn't be my choice (but then again my complete Lexx box set arrived last week, so I'm biased). The complete results were . . .

What's the coolest starship?
The Millenium Falcon (Star Wars)
 [tally] 20
Imperial Star Destroyer (Star Wars)
 [tally] 30
Battlestar Galactica (Battlestar Galactica)
 [tally] 47
USS Enterprise (Star Trek)
 [tally] 4
Andromeda Ascendant (Andromeda)
 [tally] 15
Discovery One (2001)
 [tally] 0
Serenity (Firefly)
 [tally] 81
Cheyenne Dropship (Aliens)
 [tally] 3
Lexx (Lexx)
 [tally] 1
Moya (Farscape)
 [tally] 2
The TARDIS (Doctor Who)
 [tally] 19
Red Dwarf (Red Dwarf)
 [tally] 2
votes: 224

Well, I'm not going to replace the poll this month, I've been leaving them far too long, and they are one of the many things I'm going to have a long think about whether they are part of the sites future.

Today I've added, Hoersch-Kessel Drive Inc/Gwori Revolutionary Industries Munificent-class star frigate, Hoersch-Kessel Drive Inc/Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps Recusant-class light destroyer, Cygnus Spaceworks Nu-Class Attack shuttle and Cygnus Spaceworks Theta-class T-2c shuttle to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section of the site. All done by me (doing some work for a change), and all requests by Luca a visitor to the site from Rome, Italy. Luca was having problems accessing the site due to a filter at his work which banned all sites with "game" in the address (tut, tut, using the Internet at work to access websites, you naughty chap {glances round office to make sure nobody notices he's updating his site from work}). I've pointed Luca towards the alternative address rpggam.poppy.netweaver.net , which points directly towards the server RPGGamer exists on, which should help get around that particular problem.
Anyway, I've got lots to be working on, a whole variety of stuff from Clone Wars I haven't done, some other British SF stuff which has been requested, and my own plans to do more Doctor Who stuff, so . . . . . I'd better get on with it.

First off, a whoops, missed this when HellStormer sent it through back in march and only just discovered it while going back through my email looking for something.
So I've added The Ragnarok from Final Fantasy 8 to the Starships Section of the Site.
Today, I've also added Imperial All Terrain Super Scout Transport (AT-SST) and Aratech 112 Patrol Speeder to the Star Wars D/6 Vehicles Section, and Kuat Systems Engineering Xi-4 Helius Interceptor (CloneFighter) to the Star Wars Starships Section of the site. All done by me, based on pictures I found out there on the web at some point in the past, and put aside to make stats for. Many thanks to the artists, who I've tried to credit where I could find their names.

To everyone reading this wonderful site the world over, hello out there!

I'm Hellstormer, newest edition to the staff here at the site.  Not much to say just yet, but I just wanted to give a hello to everyone and say that I am still working on new stuff to add, as usual.

Currently, I am working on Mobile Suit Gundam SEED material, but other Gundam related series are out there, plenty to keep me busy for a long time (and probably will).  In between this stuff, I hope everyone feels free to send in a request.  I have had some for Andromeda and a few others (must check my email again!), and would be glad for any more people would like to send in and make known.

Until next time, keep it rollin'!

Today I've the pleasure of adding the contents of the Star Wars Online Journal to the site. These are a selection of fan made PDF's in the format of the old West End Games Star Wars Adventure Journals. A mixture of adventures, stats, stories and art, they are incredible pieces of work.
However, that's not all. The Online Journal also made a number of sourcebooks and adventures, all illustrated and assembled into PDF's which stand up to the quality and appearance of professional published materials. So today, I have added, Online Journal Volume 2, Issue 1, Online Journal Volume 2, Issue 2, Online Journal Volume 2, Issue 3, Online Journal Volume 2, Issue 4, Starship Challenge, Tactical Role Playing, Demons in the Dark for Star Wars D/6, Demons in the Dark for Star Wars D/20, Arms and Equipment Guide Supplement Volume 1 Issue 1, Arms and Equipment Guide Supplement Volume 1 Issue 2, Arms and Equipment Guide Supplement Volume 1 Issue 3, Net.Guide to Spleens, Net.Guide to X-Wings, Net.Guide to Stormtroopers, The Y-Wing Sourcebook to the Online Journal section that I've added especially to the site. They're all kind of large, but well worth the download.

Anyone waiting for a reply from me, please be patient, I'll get back to you as soon as possible. My father ended up back in hospital this week with breathing problems (since he had half his lung removed last year because of lung cancer, he has suffered from various respiritory problems), and he finally passed away this morning.
Although I wasn't exactly what you'd call "close" to my father, for the next week or so I'm going to be swamped with family responsibilities (if for no other reason than I'm going to have to provide beds for some of the family who'll be coming to the funeral), so the site will be on the backburner once again. I'll be back to things as soon as I can, and be in touch with all of those awaiting my emails as soon as I've got the time.
        Back Soon . . . . .
