Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season 3 Episode 12: Nightsisters

What is it ? : Asajj Ventress is in Starfighter Combat with Obi Wan and Anakin, and is getting the upper hand on Obi Wan, however Anakin attacks from behind and damages her ship as well, causing both her and Obi Wan to crash into the Hangar of a Separatist ship. Meanwhile Palpatine in his role as Sidious has become worried about Ventress's power and that Dooku could possibly challenge him with her as his apprentice, so orders Dooku to kill her.
Wounded from her crash she calls Dooku for support in taking out the two Jedi, but he tells her she has failed him for the last time and orders his fleet to destroy the ship she's on. She fights Obi Wan and Anakin, and ends up force choking the two of them and looks set to kill the duo, but as the ship is pounded by the rest of the Separatist fleet she is forced to flee for her life, and Anakin and Obi Wan escape.
Her damaged ship is collected from the debris field by scavengers, and she kills them and takes their ship to Dathomir, back to her people. The Witches of Dathomir initially do not recognise her, but the elder does, and assigns two of her best warriors to aid Ventress in getting revenge on Dooku. Using Dathomirian magic to become insubstantial, the three sneak into Dooku's lair, and drug and fight him, however he is too powerful for them, blasting them out of his home with force lightning.
The Elder Witch comes up with a plan to exploit Dooku's weakness, and gets in touch with him, offering him a replacement for Ventress, a male who might prove more tameable.

High Points : This is an enjoyable episode and zips by, and seeing the Witches of Dathomir brought into the series is intriguing and fascinating to watch. Dark siders who work together as a team without the squabbling for power, evil but with their own society and rules. I'm looking forwards to seeing more of them.

Low Points : I have only one complaint about this episode, that Ventress has somehow become the force choke champion, not only does she kill four armed and ready opponents aboard the scavenger vessel. But she also grabs and holds both Obi Wan and Anakin, looking likely to defeat both single handedly. The power level fluctuates a little too much for me, as later in the episode, backed by the two best Dathomirian Warriors, their appearances and locations obscured by Dathomir magic, and with Dooku drugged, he still easily beats her. Dooku and Anakin fight a couple of times, and never is Dooku this ridiculously more powerful than him.

So what do you really think ? : I liked this one a lot, and since I know this is the beginning of possibly the most major storyline in the Clone Wars series, I'm really looking forwards to it when they've got off the ground with such a good episode.

Final Words : I avoided mentioning it above in the Low Points, but the Scavengers have exactly the same ship as the only other Scavenger we've encountered. It's a big galaxy, and there's surely more than one kind of vessel used for picking the debris from battles clean, using the same design strikes me a little of laziness on the part of the animators and writers.

Score : 8.5/10
