Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 3: Story 2: Batuu Bonanza

What is it ? : The Young Jedi are on Batuu with their new droids, delivering a parcel to Jedi Master Carver Drow. The droids become distracted by the many sights of the world, a fruit stand, some jars of milk, a labor droid, but the Young Jedi are distracted as well when they see a man juggling, who invites Kai to try using his Jedi reflexes.
Kai successfully juggles a few balls, but the parcel he has put down while he does is collected by a garbage collection droid.
The Young Jedi split up to search for the garbage collector, but each become distracted again, Nubs and Dozer by a flower, Lys and Gigi by a bird, and Kai and Beepers by a starship.
They eventually track down the Garbage Collector droid, but he has already emptied his load at the dump, but takes them there. They discover all the garbage is crushed down into cubes, and notice the parcel on the conveyor belt leading to the crusher. Kai chases the parcel, while Nubs clears a path to the controls for Lys to try to deactivate them. After getting Beepers caught on the magnet, the manage to release him, and Kai rides him while he fires his rockets to grab the parcel just in time.
Later they catch up with Master Drow, who receives the parcel from them revealing that it is a seedling from a Tenuu tree and takes it to the Jedi Temple, while the Young Jedi decide to show the town off to their droids. . . .

High Points : While, it's a fun story, searching for a lost parcel, the introduction of the droids doesn't add much. The droids all have the same flaws as their associated Young Jedi, with Beepers liking starships, Dozer liking plants and flowers, and Gigi liking animals. While the droids are well suited to their owners, they don't add much as the storyline could very well have taken place exactly the same without them.
That said, it is a good use of a standard sci-fi trope of the crushing machines and the reason the heroes must race through them.

Low Points : It's not a terrible episode at all, and all hangs together pretty well. The reason for the search makes sense, the parcel is collected as garbage as they put it down next to a garbage receptacle, they have to find the particular collector to find where the parcel has gone, and then it's with the rest of the garbage getting compacted for disposal.

So what do you really think ? : A fun little episode, with a simple message, a bunch of action without it being fighting, it really works as a show for young kids. While it's not the best written, or most exciting episode, this is a great example of what this show should be. A fun action romp without any violence.

Final Words : Kind of forgot to mention the lesson of the previous episode (either Slavery is bad, or, Just because someone does you a favour, it doesn't mean you owe them anything), but todays seems clear, pay attention to what you're doing.

Score : 8/10
