Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 3: Story 3: Music Mayhem

What is it ? : The Young Jedi are with Nash and arrive on Andraven, where a concert is happening with some of the galaxies biggest bands, but it's important to the Young Jedi as the Ku-Bops are performing for the first time away from Tenoo.
The lead act is the Star Strummers, who the Ku-Bops are fans of, and Bruff makes a comment about how their drummer is amazing, which leaves Kit feeling inadequate. He meets with Rek Minuu who offers to upgrade him, and he agrees. As they set up for the performance they notice Kit is missing, and spot him leaving with Rek, so the Young Jedi give chase.
Arriving at Rek's ship, they sneak in and locate Kit who has been fitted with a number of musical instruments in the style of a one man band, so as they convince him to leave with them he makes various drum noises.
They must sneak past Rek, but this isn't possible with Kit as he is, so they levitate him and hide while Rek goes past. Rek discovers Kit missing so gives chase as the Young Jedi speed off on their Speeder Bikes, but he reaches the concert first as he knows a short cut.
A fight breaks out, but the Ku-Bops have to begin performing so start without Kit, the Young Jedi beat Rek and his droids, allowing Kit to return to the stage to perform his drum solo, which impresses everyone.
The Ku-Bops make up afterwards for the somewhat cruel comments they made about his drumming, when the Star Strummers arrive and complement the band, especially the drumming, and join the Ku-Bops on stage for an encore. . . .

High Points : The entire episode is absolutely fine, but I appreciated the comment from Rek about using a short cut, as I was absolutely thinking about commenting that somehow he beats the Young Jedi back to the concert even though he leaves later, so that single line dismissal of that complaint I very much appreciated.

Low Points : So once again, Rek is the villain for upgrading droids? Kit is down, so Rek helps him out, so the Young Jedi come and convince him to leave. Yes Kit is a bit overly possessive, but he's spending time and effort into upgrading droids, and that's a bad thing?

So what do you really think ? : The episode is absolutely fine, I think the absence of Rek from the episode would actually have improved it, with Kit just having wandered off, and needing convinced his band mates actually appreciate him to make him return. So danger in the snowy mountains of Andraven would have made better action than the fairly pointless fight that occurs. (And if Rek really wants to upgrade droids, then removing the off switch on the back of his guard droids would make the most sense, as they've been used against them both times the droids have appeared).

Final Words : And the moral of this episode is, don't be too sensitive? Forgive your friends for careless comments? Droids shouldn't make decisions for themselves?

Score : 7/10
