In 0 BBY, the Galactic Empire used their DS-1 Orbital Battle Station superweapon to destroy the planet Alderaan. Bold joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic after learning about that action, becoming a Rebel pilot and joining the Alliance's Red Squadron.
