Description: Lazlo was a male Duros gangster and one of the crime bosses of the Lazlo's gang who lived during the Republic Era. He ran a crew that executed various operations. At one point, Lazlo enlisted the help of two street rats, Colby and Niro, to help with a job. When Niro was caught by a police force, Colby escaped and joined Lazlo's bunch, becoming known as Cad Bane. Lazlo continued to run the group until his death. After Lazlo's death, Bane took Lazlo's hat and wore it himself.
Biography
Recruiting Colby
Lazlo was residing on the streets, observing the shop of a local kingpin, whose business he planned to take down due to it messing with operations of his own, when his attention was grabbed by two adolescent Duros street rats being scolded by said kingpin. Later, he spotted both of them fooling with and skillfully scamming a protocol droid ,CB, out of groceries, before following them down an alleyway. As they were eating the stolen fruit, Lazlo approached them, complimenting their skills and introducing himself as a businessman, throwing them a coin. When asked by Niro what it was for, he replied it was an investment, before departing.
The young boys spent the money on Foodstuffs at the local shop and were again woken up by Lazlo the following day. Commenting on them having had a feast the previous night, he reminded them they're his investment. When they inquired what that meant, he said the boys had the taste of "the good life", before asking them if they wanted more of it. As they walked on the streets, Niro asked him about his limping leg, to which the tall man responded the first rule of "business" was not to ask questions. Stopping across the street of the shop, he queried the two Duros regarding what they knew of it, becoming slightly annoyed when Niro used his own words against him, saying he thought they were not supposed to ask questions. The criminal responded by warning the boy not to get smart with him. He went on by informing them the owner was running operations that are in conflict with his own business interests and this provides the boys with an opportunity.
Lazlo needed a distraction to trash the illegal casino that the kingpin was running in the back of the storefront, and offered the boys five times the amount he had given them beforehand, assuring them it wouldn’t be too difficult of a job. While Niro had his doubts, Colby was a tough negotiator, and demanded Lazlo give them ten times the pay of the previous day, prompting the older Duros to smirk slightly. As night came, the boys started making a ruckus in the alleyway behind the shop, prompting the kingpin to confront them with two security droids. This gave Lazlo and his team enough time to walk through the front door, shoot the shopkeeper, destroy the kingpin's casino, rob its stash of coins and flee the scene. On cue, the boys started running toward the street, and as they reached it, Lazlo appeared from behind the corner and gunned down the kingpin chasing them, leaving his body on the ground.
The two street rats stood shocked for a moment and observed the corpse in disbelief, before hearing the sirens of incoming police. As they ran for the criminal's ride, Niro was captured by the law force droids, and Colby reluctantly left him behind and entered the getaway vehicle. Lazlo provided little comfort, but informed Colby that it meant he would receive his cut of the heist on top of his own, dropping a pile of coins into Colby’s hands and welcoming him to "the family".
Later exploits and death
Following these events, Lazlo continued to mentor Colby, now going by Cad Bane, over the course of his young adolescence. However disaster would strike during a mission to the same city where he’d first taken him in. Thought Cad had initially insisted on accompanying him. Lazlo turned him down, saying that he ought to stay at their base but not to take it personally, telling Arin to keep an eye on him, before nodding goodbye to the young criminal and departing in his ship with the rest of the crew. During the mission, Lazlo was ultimately gunned down by a lawman, leaving only his hat behind in the vessel in which the wounded getaway pilot would managed to fly back to the hideout before expiring, using his last breaths to inform Cad of Lazlo’s killing .
Legacy
As the ship crashed into their base, piloted by the dying gang member, Cad rushed into the cockpit and learned of his mentor's passing from his cohort, who held onto the hat before passing on the spot. This prompted Cad to seek revenge, eventually traveling back and shooting the marshal down, before getting arrested for it. Two of Lazlo’s thugs, Vak Lako and Tay Grutty continued to serve Bane.
