Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord: Chapter 4: Pride and Vengeance

What is it ? : A ship arrives at the Pykes base, and Vario disembarks with cargo containers, he attempts to warn the Pykes, but a figure emerges from the ship and begins slaughtering them, only for Vario to stun him with a shot from the back.
Vario tells the remaining guards that they should tell Krim that it was he, Vario, that caught Maul for them. They drag the body inside to Krim, who discovers that it's not really Maul, and Maul for real arrives and slaughters Krim and the rest of the Pykes except some who surrender. He makes one of those the new leader, who will report back to him.
Devon returns to Eeko-Dio Daki, telling him of Maul, and they agree that Captain Lawson can help, so Daki sends him a message informing him of the location of Maul. Receiving this mission, Lawson gets permission to deal with it without the Empire, but Two Boots begins to send a message and Lawson has to deactivate him.
The police assault team arrives at Mauls, and Maul gives them a chance to work together, he promises that he will not allow his gangs to commit crimes on Janix, in exchange for the police not bothering him. Lawson refuses instead telling Maul his people will not be harmed if they surrender, and a fight breaks out. But Maul himself is engaged by Devon and Eeko-Dio Daki.
Lawson tries to go after Maul, but his forces take casualties by the time reinforcements arrive, and Maul and his gang escape and collapse a tunnel behind them, with Eeko-Dio Daki being injured in the fight. Lawson realises the two are Jedi and let them go, and when Two Boots arrives with the reinforcements, he apologises for turning him off, Two Boots in return hopes that Lawson will forgive him, as all the police receive an alert, and an Imperial Star Destroyer arrives overhead. . . .

High Points : There's a couple of decent fights in this one, and the story progresses slightly. The animation remains wonderful, perhaps the best that Star Wars has ever produced.

Low Points : But there's not much going on, Maul takes over the Pykes, and the Empire arrives on Janix, and that's about it.
When Vario fools the guards into thinking Maul is attacking them, and he stuns him, I was confused as to why one of Mauls Zabrak guards was so athletic and capable with a Lightsaber, taking down multiple guards rapidly before Vario "stuns" him. If the Zabrak is so good with a lightsaber, why not just give him one, he's far more capable in this scene than any other we've seen him in.

So what do you really think ? : Perhaps not a Low Point, but it confused me. Two Boots went to Lawsons boss to request the Empire was summoned to deal with Maul, but she instead reassigned him to desk duties. When told they know where Maul is, Two Boots goes to summon the Empire himself, but Lawson switches him off. When Lawsons team has casualties from confronting Maul, Two Boots summons the Empire. Even if we're not talking about a droid here, he disobeys orders, both his human partner and his commanding officer have stopped him summoning the Empire, but he does it anyway.
What's the point of a droid cop that goes renegade and disobeys orders?

Final Words : We're at episode 4 out of 10, and 2 of the episodes have kind of been filler. We got the introduction to the setting, but since then it's dragged along. However, perhaps we're going to get something more interesting now the Empire has turned up.

Score : 8/10
