Description: The Ronto Wrap was a sandwich made from ronto meat served in a flat piece of bread called a ronto wrapper and topped with slaw and Clutch Sauce or emulsauce. Around 232 BBY, the Jedi Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Celesta Kami enjoyed Ronto Wraps after lightsaber training. In 229 BBY, the pirate Zyle Keem stuffed Ronto Wraps into their leather duster, and before around 10 BBY, Deland Tyerell dropped a Ronto Wrap while evading security droids in a restricted area on the planet Malastare, with the racer Volo Bolus giving him theirs, which he also dropped shortly after. Around 1 ABY, while aboard the Halcyon starcruiser, the Imperial General Kardan consumed a platter of food that contained three of the wraps.
In 34 ABY, they were available at podracing fanatic Bakkar's Ronto Roasters in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu and were cooked by the pitmaster droid 8D-J8. The same year, the mechanic Salju and Resistance spy Vi Moradi both ordered Ronto Wraps while the former gave the latter a tour of the outpost. 8D-J8 once offered a Ronto Wrap to the Clawdite Remex Io, who turned it down, and a droid repair technician consumed some of the wraps after saving the bartender Seezelslak from a First Order re-education facility.
Description
The Ronto Wrap was the best-selling sandwich available at Ronto Roasters, a restaurant owned by the podracing fanatic Bakkar, in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu, along with other popular destinations. It contained two tender cuts of ronto meat that had the tough skin removed, and the meat was then cooked by the pitmaster droid 8D-J8 on a grill heated by a podracer engine. The two cuts, a link along with chopped meat underneath, were topped with slaw and Clutch Sauce, Bakkar's signature smoky and spicy sauce, and the filling was served in a flatbread called a ronto wrapper. Bakkar also included a special spice blend that was a family secret. There was also a breakfast version of the dish called the Ronto Morning Wrap and a meat-free Ronto-less Garden Wrap. All three versions were safe for humans to consume, with the Garden Wrap edible by Pantorans and Ronto Wraps themselves by Zabraks, Artiodacs, Aleena, Pooba, and members of the Prae'tus species.
Strono Tuggs, the chef at the neighboring Tuggs' Grub mobile eatery parked in Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, also had a version of the Ronto Wrap. The Artiodac willingly admitted that his version was not as good as Bakkar's, but he claimed that the difference was hardly noticeable if the wrap was smothered in enough emulsauce.
History
The High Republic
After lightsaber training on Batuu in 232 BBY, the Jedi Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Celesta Kami were hungry and acquired Ronto Wraps, while their peer Lys Solay ate a Ronto-less Garden Wrap. The group visited the Creature Stall in the Black Spire Outpost Market, where they finished their wraps. Between 232 and 230 BBY, the Jedi returned to Batuu to deliver a package to Jedi Master Carver Drow. After initially losing the package, the trio and their droid friends Gigi, Dozer, and Beepers delivered the package to Drow while the Master was eating a Ronto Wrap.
In 229 BBY, while on a Nihil ship patrolling the Stormwall hyperspace barrier, the fourteen-year-old pirate Zyle Keem stuffed packaged Ronto Wraps into their leather duster to take to the planet Valo. The following year, three Jedi younglings came across the dining establishment Marl's Good Enough Eats on the planet Palagosal. As they traversed the vandalized diner, the youngling Jamil Sollis stepped on some rotten food, musing that it may have been a Ronto Wrap.
Reign of the Empire
Months prior to their race on Batuu around 10 BBY, racers Volo Bolus, Pyya Bocc, and Deland Tyerell—son of the late podracer Ratts Tyerell—were racing on their speeders through a restricted area in the outskirts of the Industrial Sector on the Mid Rim planet Malastare on their way to a photo destination. Using the restricted area as a shortcut, they alerted three security droids to their presence and were pursued, with the droids opening fire. During the chase, Tyerell dropped a Ronto Wrap, and it struck one of the droids, compromising its visual acuity. The three managed to escape capture by the droids and reach their destination, with Bolus claiming it was the perfect lunch spot and Tyerell stating that was easy for them to say since they still had their Ronto Wrap. The racer offered theirs to Tyerell, stating he had earned it. Then, as Tyerell ate his new wrap, Bocc revealed she had a fatal illness, causing the Aleena to drop the second wrap in shock.
Around that same year, Bolus and Sornah Bocc, the mother of Pyya, had Almakian apples as part of their food supplies stored in Sornah's Garage on Malastare. Bolus ate so many of the apples that they became sick of them, craving a Ronto Wrap instead. Around 1 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, General Kardan of the Galactic Empire gorged on a platter that included three Ronto Wraps while aboard the commandeered pleasure starcruiser known as the Halcyon.
Under the First Order
In 34 ABY, during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, the local mechanic Salju took the Resistance spy Vi Moradi on a tour of Black Spire Outpost, during which they stopped at Ronto Roasters and each ordered a Ronto Wrap. After the arrival of the First Order on Batuu, 8D-J8, along with an astromech droid, offered a Ronto Wrap to the Clawdite Remex Io. Despite the droid claiming they were both juicy and the best in the quadrant, the criminal was unimpressed and declined the offer. During the First Order's occupation of Batuu in the same year, Tuggs included his personal recipe for the Ronto Wrap in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.
In that time, the adventurer Eloc Throno mentioned the Ronto Wrap in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu. Also during the occupation, a droid repair technician consumed Ronto Wraps after rescuing the bartender Seezelslak from a First Order re-education facility. After the defeat of the clone of Darth Sidious in 35 ABY, the creature enthusiast Ardis San Tekka mentioned Ronto Wraps as part of her entry on rontos in her journal, which detailed her adventures seeing non-sentient creatures of the galaxy with her droid companion, B8-T5.
